- The three types of incense:

- Herbal incense: Any incense made from dried herbs, flowers, or berries that is burned on charcoal or that can be found in stick or cone form. Examples: star anise, jasmine, sage, juniper berries, etc.

- Wood incense : Any incense made from wood chips or bark that is burned on charcoal or that can be found in sticks or cones. Examples: cedar, cinnamon, sandalwood, etc.

- Resinous incense : Any incense made of resin or gum that is burned on charcoal or that can be found in sticks or cones. Examples: frankincense, myrrh, pine resin, gum arabic, etc.

- In bestseller:

White sage incense is widely used to purify spaces and in (spiritual) cleansing ceremonies that also purify someone's aura.

Copal Agathis Dammara (origin Southeast Asia)
Copal is considered an energetic shield that can protect against negative energies, unwanted entities, and harmful influences. Its powerful, resinous scent creates a protective barrier that helps maintain a state of balance and spiritual security.

Copal resin, originally from this tree, grew in Mexico but is now found in Africa, India, and Manila. Different types of trees produce copal. The resin from the tree (Agathis Dammara) is sold under the name Manila copal. Authentic copal, the one used in pre-Columbian cultures, comes from trees in South America. Copal was used as incense during initiations or to confer the power of divination. There are three types of copal: black, white, and gold.

You can burn each type of resin alone or in a mixture. All three types have a powerful effect on the psyche. It purifies the inner being and supports mental and spiritual activity.

These resins have important medicinal properties. Dammar Resin: These are resins secreted by various trees of the Dipterocarpaceae family, large evergreen trees in tropical regions, from India to the Philippines. Different types of resins are found on the market. In Malaysia, the word Dammar means "light." Dammar-based fumigations clear the mind and bring light to the dark areas of our soul. They help with sadness, melancholy, and depressed moods.

Benzoin is valued for its physical and mental relaxing effects. This resin is traditionally used in exorcisms or to cleanse a space of negative energies. It is a key aromatic in many spiritual practices, where it is valued for promoting mental relaxation.

Styrax Styracaceae styrax calamitus (Indonesia, Sumatra). Styrax is a fragrant resin derived from certain tree species and is used either as incense or in herbal medicine. Originally from Asia Minor and the eastern Mediterranean regions, it was extracted only from the styrax tree (Styrax officinalis). Later, the extraction of most of this resin was carried out on other trees whose resins have a similar scent (but are not related to the styrax tree), such as Liquidambar orientalis and Liquidambar styraciflua.

Myrrh, (Commiphora myrrha - Nees) is a natural gum that forms after tapping the trunk of Commiphora myrrha, a small tree that grows primarily in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. Trees growing in the wild are regularly tapped by natives.

Tals Balsam (Myroxylon balsamum) An important medicine of the Indians of South and Central America. It is used for all respiratory disorders and has a scent that is initially pungent, then sweet and vanilla-like.*
Combines well with copal. Tolu Balsam was used by the Incas to embalm bodies. Recommended for attunement, meditation, and ceremonies. Use it with other incense, as it becomes fluid when heated. "Comfort and healing."

Laudanum/ Labdanum (Cistus ladaniferus) Native to the Cisrose bush in Crete; an incense resin used since time immemorial. The Bible describes how it is mixed with myrrh. It gives a sensual amber scent, which activates sensual perception and eliminates disturbances. Can be used well in purification rituals, to cleanse a (living) space or a person's aura. It is also an excellent incense for shamanic rituals.

Cretan labdanum has a scent similar to that of amber. Today, this substance has one of the richest fragrances. Each time it is inhaled, a new aspect is revealed: floral, fruity, leathery, honeyed, musky. This scent can open the doors to inner worlds. It penetrates our unconscious and awakens memories, images, feelings, and moods.

Galbanum Paste (Ferula galbaniflua) A gum from the roots of a 1-2 meter tall shrub and a centuries-old incense substance. A "mother resin" with a musky scent. Elemi (Canarium luzonicum) Found widely in the Philippines and the Moluccas; trees reach 30 meters tall. The resin is harvested by cutting the bark. Amber Resin or Succin: This is a fossil resin dating from the Upper Eocene that is found mainly on the shores of the Baltic: the coasts of Memel, Koenigsberg and Danzig, where it is deposited by the waves; it has also been found in France in the lignite terrains of Picardy and very recently in the Oise.

Amber comes from the fossilization of conifer resin: Pitioxylon Succinifer Krauss. Yellow amber is solid, the color of honey, ranging from light yellow to more or less dark caramel, it comes in pieces of varying sizes, translucent, hard, with a conchoid fracture.

Amber incense is used as a shield against negative energy and is also a stimulant. Amber incense is used as a fumigation on a burning charcoal pellet.

Galbanum resin: Galbanum is an oleaginous gum resin derived from umbelliferous plants that resemble fennel. There are two types of galbanum commercially available. The first is Mediterranean, yellowish or olive-brown in color. It is mainly used in perfumery because of its scent.

The second, called Persian Galbanum, has a hard consistency and medicinal properties. A highly valued remedy, it was used as a tranquilizer for stress, phobias, and especially agoraphobia. When you're tense and confused, it soothes and relaxes you.

Gugul resin: The resin of this tree produces what is called Indian frankincense. It is used by Indians in the same way that frankincense was used by Arabs. The Gugul tree grows mainly in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Harvested by cutting into the bark, its resin comes mainly from trees growing in the wild.

Opopomax resin: (Commiphora erythraea): Family: Burseraceae Planet: Mars Element: Fire Gender: masculine

Parts Used: Resin and Oil. Opopanax is also called "sweet myrrh," and they are actually from the same family. When burned, this resin releases scents reminiscent of cork stoppers or old libraries full of mysteries. Its scent is lighter than that of myrrh.

It was used to protect against negative influences. The smoke was said to envelop individuals in a screen of perfume that immunized them against any external agents likely to bring misfortune. Fumigations based on this resin are said to strengthen human perception.

Sandarac resin: It is a resin flowing naturally from the bark of Callitris Quadrivalvis rich, a type of thuja articulata, a shrub found in northern and eastern Africa; there is also Sandarac in Australia Dragon's blood: (daemonorops draco) despite its name, it is a resin from a palm tree. The resin is dark red in color, shiny. This mysterious incense is used in rituals intended to combat powerful negative energies. This substance serves both as an offering and for protection, but it is rarely burned alone because it produces a thick black smoke. In mixtures, dragon's blood reinforces the purifying power of frankincense.
