Please note:

A cabochon is a polished stone, not a faceted one; they usually have a flat underside and a curved upper side. This type of preparation was the most common before the development of faceted cutting.

A cameo is a technique of engraving, or even bas-relief sculpture, of glypticism used mainly on materials presenting layers of contrasting colors (camaïeu).

A gem is a fine, precious, or ornamental stone or any very hard or colored material having the appearance of these gemstones and used as an ornament.
To qualify as a gem, a material (mineral, rock, or an organic substance such as pearl, amber, or coral) must be attractive, especially in color. It must be resistant to deterioration and strong enough to survive constant use or handling without becoming scratched or damaged.

A cut stone can be shaped into a marquise, rectangle, round, oval, square, baguette, briolette... a wide variety of materials and shapes are present.
