The sitar is a plucked string instrument of the Hindustani (North Indian) classical tradition, known for its haunting sounds and rich ornamentation.

It is used in classical music, often associated with masters like Ravi Shankar or Vilayat Khan.

Vilayat Khan style (Gandhar Pancham): 6 main strings, no bass strings.

Clearer, brighter sound, oriented towards singing (gayaki ang).
