🌟 1. Biblical origin (Book of Ezekiel)
The word Merkabah comes from the vision described by the prophet Ezekiel (chapter 1 of his book in the Hebrew Bible):
In it he describes a spectacular vision of a celestial chariot, carried by four living creatures (the Cherubim), each having four faces (man, lion, bull, eagle).
The chariot has wheels within wheels, capable of moving in all directions without turning.
At the top, Ezekiel sees a throne, and on this throne, a divine figure.
🕊️ 2. The mystical Merkabah (or mystical Chariot)
It is an ancient form of Jewish mysticism (predating Kabbalah).
Merkabah mystics sought to spiritually "ascend" to the heavens, to the divine throne (the highest of the seven heavens), through meditative practices, sacred chants, and trance states.
These "journeys" included passages through heavenly palaces (Hebrew: Heikhalot ) guarded by fearsome angels, whom the mystic had to appease or vanquish through the knowledge of secret divine names.
✨ 3. Modern and esoteric interpretations
In Kabbalah, the Merkabah is sometimes interpreted as a symbol of the spiritual structure of the universe, and of the union between the human and the divine.
In New Age movements, the word is often written Merkaba (with a final "a") and refers to a luminous energy field or a spiritual vehicle of light:
It is often represented by a tetrahedral star (two inverted tetrahedra, a sacred geometric form).
Used for meditation practices, DNA activation or multidimensional travel.
