Chenrezig (Tibetan) or Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit) is the Buddha of great compassion, of limitless compassion for all living beings.

Chenrezig made a strong vow not to return to Nirvana until he had liberated all sentient beings and freed them from suffering.

He is considered the protector of Tibet and his mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is the most famous Tibetan mantra
